An Iconic Drumkit Now Available As Drum Samples

The kit featured in this sample pack is a beautiful 7-ply shell Ludwig® Classic Maple 3-piece (kick, 2 toms) with an iconic black oyster pearl finish.

The Black Oyster kit drum sample pack really showcases Darrell’s signature sound – whether he’s working with alt-rockers, heavy metal icons or even a pop legend like Paul McCartney (whose band the Beatles put a drum kit just like this one on the map), his drums always sound so…alive and real.

The production here is punchy & present, and the kit’s tone is warm & resonant, making it a great kit for just about any style of music – but especially rock, alt-rock & hard rock, where the drums really need to stand out in the mix.

"It's such an iconic Drumkit."

Mixed By A Multi-Platinum Engineer Who Specializes in Big Drums

25+ Years Experience

These are the samples hand-crafted by 10x Grammy Award winning engineer Darrell Thorp. He's worked in the best recording studios in the world and mixed a bunch of cool records for artists like the Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, Beck and even Jay Z (Black Album)

Darrell's Signature Sound

In this drum pack, you'll find the exact same professional drum sounds his major label artists ask for when he works with them. You can expect acoustic drum samples that don't sound like you what you get in those cookie-cutter drum sample libraries.

Unparalleled Quality

The Black Oyster sample pack was engineered to be MixReady and sound great in any music you create. Over 2,000+ hours went into the making of this drum pack, and we think you'll hear the difference right away. You can hear every detail of the kit and the amazing room it was recorded in.

The Difference Between Good and GREAT DRUM SOUNDS

Darrell Thorp at Mixing Console in Recording Studio

"I'm really proud of these drum samples. What makes them different is in the ingredients. We've spent a ton of time meticulously setting up the microphones, tuning the kits and recording them in world-class studios with amazing drummers (using the best modern & vintage gear). The sound you'll hear, is the same sound I create when I'm working with artists like the Foo Fighters or Beck. Every detail is captured in these sample sessions and every nuance played by the drummer. I use these same samples in my own productions for well-known artists and I know they'll sound great in your music, too. Although these samples sound massive & ROCK-worthy, I've also included a separate folder of lightly processed samples that will work in any genre of music.

These aren't one-shot, single velocity samples like you'll find at other sites, either. In order to create the most realistic drum sound, we've recorded the drummer striking each instrument in many articulations and we've captured multiple velocity layers (from very soft to very LOUD) and round robins (alternate hits), too. This ensures the most dynamic, realistic drum sounds ever recorded.

I've included EQ-ed & mixed individual microphone folders as well as my go-to Preset mixes. These presets are my pre-balanced room & close mic blends that allow you to simply drop them in your DAW, your sampler or your drum replacement VSTs without worrying about whether or not there's too much overhead or not enough close mic. I've done it for you! But of course, the individual mic samples are there if you want to do it yourself! I've even included my secret Reverb IRs for you that you can blend.

I wanted to create a drum sample pack that sounded clean and HUGE. When I am tracking I try to get finished drum sounds, and this sample pack is a representation of that process. These are MixReady drum sounds! I think you're really going to hear the difference our drum sample packs will make in your music. It's what separates Drumatica drums from the others."

MAJOR LABEL SOUNDS & PRODUCTIONS WITHOUT THE COST

We recorded the drums at the ultra-modern Sweetwater Studios facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana recently.

Located within the campus of the U.S.’s largest online music instrument retailer, Sweetwater, Sweetwater Studios offers three world-class rooms designed by acclaimed recording studio designer, Russ Berger. Artists such as Anthrax, Mr. Big and Counting Crows have all recorded at Sweetwater Studios.

We tracked the drums in their largest room – Studio A – a 29’x 26’ live room outfitted with a gorgeous Rupert Neve Designs 5088 console - along with a plethora of vintage & modern microphones, EQs, pre-amps, processors, and outboard gear.  We've captured the warmth and resonance of this special room - giving these drums a big, projecting sound.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How will I receive my drum samples?

After placing the order, you will see a download link, so you can start making music immediately. Please note, our libraries are several Gigabytes large (in most cases, over 10GB or more), so you will need a strong, reliable internet connect to download these samples.

You can also download your purchase by clicking the link in the email you receive from us (please check the 'SPAM' or 'Promotions' folder if you cannot find it).

  • Which software  plays drum samples?

Our drum samples come in both 24bit, 48khz WAV files as well as Slate Trigger 2 TCI files. Trigger is the most popular VST created for triggering drum samples in a DAW (digital audio workstation) -  like Pro Tools or Logic . If you have a less than perfect sounding drum performance loaded in your DAW, you can use Trigger to 'trigger' our drum samples via the individual TCI files that we include in every WAV/TCI sample pack for your convenience. Our WAV files can be used in any sampler - hardware or software - that can load 48khz, 24 bit audio files. Most DAWs have their own built-in sampler to use. Alternatively, you can take single shots from our sample packs and load them in a track on a tempo-defined grid, one by one, and play them that way. Whatever you want and however you wish to play these!

  • Do these samples come Raw and unprocessed? Will I have to mix them myself?

No, every Drumatica sample pack or virtual instrument comes professionally mixed and balanced so that they're 'mixready' for you. Of course, you can always add more processing to your liking, but it's not necessary. Our Signature Samples Series feature award-winning producers and audio engineers who personally mix and balance these samples. It's like having access to your own multi-platinum producer!

  • What is your Return Policy?

Due to the nature of digital goods and electronic downloads, we are not able to accept returns , refunds or exchanges on any of our digital products. All sales are considered final.

If you are having any issue downloading a file or have any other questions, please contact us and we will do our best to assist you so that you can use your product right away.
